Here's a photo of sea ice breaking up south of Adelaide Island. Sea ice in this area was slow to break up in the summer of 2004/05, delaying the arrival of a supply vessel at Rothera. This photo was taken from around 6,000 feet (2,000 metres) from a plane which I ended up flying for few minutes.
